Most tumble dryers have a thermostat thermal limiter, which is a heat-sensitive safety device that shuts off heat to the drum or power supply if the dryer overheats.

This thermal limiter only activates when the air temperature in your tumble dryer drum reaches a predetermined trip temperature. A dryer can overheat for a number of reasons such as restricted airflow, faulty thermostat or a issue with the heating element.
